Entering NPIs in ChiroUp

You'll enter your Type 1 and/or Type 2 NPI numbers in a few different places within ChiroUp. This article breaks down where to enter each one—and explains what each NPI field populates on the claim form!

First, here is a breakdown on the difference between your Type 1 and Type 2 NPIs:

  • Type 1: Your Type 1 NPI identifies you as an individual healthcare provider
  • Type 2:  Your Type 2 NPI identifies your healthcare organization

Your Your Getting Started Checklist will walk you through setting up your details, but this article will highlight specifically information about your NPI.

Clinic Billing Profile:

Your Clinic billing profile is what you will attach to your claims as they are sent out. You'll want to make sure that the NPI you enter into your billing profile matches the NPI associated with your enrollments. (If you aren't sure if your enrollments are done under your Type 1 or Type 2 NPI, check your enrollments - often, your clearinghouse will be able to assist with this).

Enter the BILLING NPI into your Clinic Billing Profile. This field will populate into Box 33A on the claim form.

Provider Billing Info:

Your Provider billing information is the billing details specific to the rendering provider on a patient visit.

Enter your RENDERING NPI (Type 1) into your Provider Billing Info. This field will populate into Box 24J on the claim form.

Location Settings:

The NPI you enter in your Location details will populate into box 32A. This is likely your Type 2 NPI.

*Note: Box 32A will only populate if it is different from your billing profile NPI, which populates into 33A.

Here is a walk through showing you where you will enter your NPIs, how they populate onto the purchase, and where to view it on the claims screen:
